Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe — 9×9 — Tic-tac-toe on nine small boards: where you play inside a small board decides which board your opponent plays in. Play against 3 AI levels or with a friend on one phone. 9 languages.

About the Game

Nine small tic-tac-toe boards sit inside one big board. Get three in a row on a small board to claim it, and claim three small boards in a row on the big board to win.

There is one twist on the classic game: where you play inside a small board decides which small board your opponent must play in next. Every move is both your square and the board you send your opponent to.

How to Play

  • Play any square of a small board and your opponent must play in the small board in the same position. Play the top-right square and your opponent plays in the top-right small board. The board to play in is marked with a blue border
  • If that board is already finished (won or full), your opponent may play in any open board. Sending someone to a finished board gives them a free choice, so be careful
  • Three in a row — across, down or diagonally — claims a small board, which is then covered by a big X or O
  • Claim three small boards in a row on the big board to win. If no moves remain, it is a draw

New to the game? Start on the classic 3×3 board — an ordinary game of tic-tac-toe is a good way to get a feel for it.

Modes and Difficulty

  • Vs Computer, 3 levels: Easy is about even for someone who just learned the rules. Normal reliably beats Easy, and Hard thinks about half a second per move and looks well ahead
  • Choose who moves first: you, the computer, or random
  • 2-Player mode: take turns on one phone

Features

  • Ultimate 9×9 board or the classic 3×3 board
  • The board you must play in is highlighted and the rest is dimmed, so you always see where to play
  • Won boards are covered by a big X or O, and the last move is marked
  • Undo, and a win/loss/draw record for each board type and difficulty
  • A how-to-play guide with tips; plays in 9 languages
