Amazons — Move a Queen, Shoot an Arrow, Block a Square

Info

Amazons — Queen & Arrow Board Game — Move a queen, shoot an arrow to block a square and trap your rival. 6×6, 8×8 and 10×10 boards, 3 AI levels or a friend on one phone. On Google Play, in 9 languages.

About the Game

White and Black each have queens (4 each on 8×8 and 10×10, 2 each on 6×6) and take turns. A turn has two steps: first move one of your queens like a chess queen — any distance horizontally, vertically or diagonally — then that queen shoots an arrow the same way from where it landed. The square the arrow hits stays blocked for the rest of the game.

Nothing is ever captured. The board slowly fills with arrows, and whoever has no queen that can move on their turn loses — so there are no draws.

How to Play

  • White moves first. Tap one of your queens and dots show where it can go
  • Tap a dot to move the queen; red ✕ marks now show where the arrow can land. Tap one of them to finish your turn
  • Neither queens nor arrows can pass other queens or blocked squares. You may shoot back into the square the queen just left
  • Before you shoot, ‘Undo move’ puts the queen back where it was
  • The ‘Area’ numbers show how many empty squares each side reaches before the other — a quick read on who is ahead
  • When the areas are fully split and the winner is certain, tap ‘See result’ to finish right away or ‘Play it out’ to keep going
  • Tip: wall in your rival’s queens with arrows and keep yours in open space. Once the areas split, the bigger side wins

Boards

  • 6×6 starter: 2 queens each, short games that are good for learning the rules
  • 8×8 (default): 4 queens each, a comfortable size to start with
  • 10×10 classic: the original board and starting layout

Computer Levels

  • Easy: tuned so that someone who has just learned the rules wins about half the time. It never misses a winning move, but it sometimes plays a careless one
  • Normal: a newcomer wins about one or two games in ten, and it is clearly stronger than Easy
  • Hard: thinks a little over 2 seconds per move and reads several moves ahead. It almost never loses to Normal
  • Choose who moves first: you, the computer or random

Features

  • 2-Player mode on the same device
  • Undo, last-move markers (the square left, the queen that moved and the arrow) and resign
  • Win/loss record for each board size and level
  • A how-to-play guide for first-timers; plays in 9 languages
