The Ten of Wands walks toward a goal that is almost reached, hauling every last burden along with it. Upright it signals that the going is hard but the finish is not far off. Reversed it signals that the load needs to be shared, or partly set down.

Where the meaning comes from
In the Rider-Waite deck, the Ten of Wands shows a figure walking with ten staves gathered up in both arms. The bundle blocks the view ahead, and still the steps do not stop, aimed at a village that sits small in the distance. What is worth noticing is that nobody threw these staves at the figure — they were picked up voluntarily. Where the staves of the Seven or the Nine of Wands were tools for fending off an outside threat, the staves of the Ten are responsibilities and promises shouldered by one’s own hands in order to reach a goal.
The number 10 is the seat where a cycle completes, and at the same time the point where things have stacked up so far that they tip into excess. The fire element of the Wands suit — will and drive — arrives here to find that the original enthusiasm has turned into weight to be carried. The paradox at the heart of this card is that the load does not lighten as the goal gets closer; instead every responsibility accumulated up to the final moment has to be carried at once.
Upright meaning
Upright, the Ten of Wands shows that the destination is not far, however hard the going is. The weight on the shoulders right now is the sum of everything achieved and taken on, and the village coming into view means there is a place to set it all down before long. What does deserve attention is that the walking is being done with the view blocked. This is also a period where it is easy to miss the other signals around you because the goal has swallowed all of your attention.
Reversed meaning
Reversed appears when the weight of the load has crossed the line of what can be handled. The habit of shouldering every responsibility alone is now the very thing standing in the way of finishing. The message the card offers here is not to give up but to share the load or set part of it down. There is no need to carry all ten staves to the end. Put a few down, hand a few to someone else, and the destination is still reachable.
