Who runs this

Hello. I’m the solo developer behind Fadongkwon Soft.

Software development is my day job, and I’m a father of two. Since late 2024 I’ve been building and shipping apps by myself, using evenings after work and weekends. Planning, development, design, store submissions, and this blog — all of it is mine.

There was nothing dramatic behind starting. Watching the costs of raising children climb, I wanted to build something that would accumulate value over time instead of just spending hours. So I ship them one at a time and record what I learn along the way. The mistakes so far are collected in What I learned shipping 8 apps as a solo developer with a day job.

What’s here

This site is both a home for the apps and a working notebook. Three things, mainly.

1. A tarot card meaning dictionary I’m working through the meaning of all 78 tarot cards, one at a time. The artwork is drawn in-house, and the interpretations are written from scratch based on the traditional Rider–Waite imagery. The full list is at Tarot Dictionary.

2. Learning and exam material Notes gathered while helping my own children with Korean literacy and arithmetic, plus material on certification exams — systems, schedules, study methods. These are topics I actually had to research to build the apps, so I write up the parts likely to help someone looking for the same thing.

3. Development records What happens when you build and ship apps: where store reviews rejected me, how platform policies differ, and how one person keeps a dozen apps alive. The thinner the existing material on a topic, the more detail I try to give.

The apps

Learning apps built for my own kids, party apps for gatherings, exam question banks, and fortune-telling content. They’re on Google Play and Apps in Toss (Toss mini apps).

Contact

Bug reports, feature suggestions and collaboration enquiries all go through Instagram DM at @fadongkwon.soft. For bugs, telling me which device and what you were doing gets it fixed far faster.

How personal data is handled is documented in the privacy policy (Korean). This site and the apps are funded by advertising.

WHY “Fadongkwon”?

  • My children’s first name is 류O(Ryu OOO).
  • In my childhood, I enjoyed playing the Street Fighter arcade game, which features a character named Ryu.
  • One of Ryu’s iconic moves, where he shoots an energy wave, is called ‘Hadouken’ in Japanese, but it’s referred to as ‘파동권(Padongkwon)’ in Korean.
  • Since I am their father, I could have left the ‘Pa’ as it is, but I modified it to ‘Fa’ to also signify family.
  • And that’s how the name ‘Fadongkwon’ was born.

The letter ‘F’ in Fadongkwon was designed by combining the joystick motion sequence used to execute a move in the game with the shape of the energy wave.
